What is spirulina?

Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae rich in nutrients including B vitamins, beta-carotene, and vitamin E. It is cultivated for use as both a dietary supplement and a whole food. Spirulina is a vegan protein source. Thus, scientifically named as Spirulina Arthrospira Platensis is a filamentous cyanobacterium with blue-green color.

The production secrets of our Amandinois spirulina

An ideal culture domain

Our peasant farm is made up of two alkaline water basins. Our quality water comes from groundwater. Beforehand, it is regularly analyzed, no presence of heavy metals is to be reported. After each harvest, the precious water is not thrown away and reenters the methanization process which is also used to heat it. Blue algae takes advantage of the minerals and trace elements present in it in order to develop its many virtues. Note that these replace fertilizers.

Protected aquaculture ponds

Our aquaculture ponds are protected by greenhouses. First of all, the latter let the sun's rays through, beneficial to our micro-algae. Then, solar energy is also useful for maintaining the temperature. Then, the greenhouses make it possible to protect the production from bad weather and other pollution. Each greenhouse has shading to avoid excessive sunlight. Thus, the regulation of basin waters is ensured. So much so that we have chosen to equip our ponds with food tarpaulin, which allows a healthy culture environment (without heavy metals, without carcinogenic residues).

A paddle wheel is present on each of the basins instead of using submerged pumps. Thus, all the filaments of spirulina will be ideally exposed to the sun. This wheel also allows the oxygenation of the water.

Harvest time comes

Spirulina is harvested between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. It is a pump that sucks up the water from the pool with the micro algae. The result is a fine powder of a beautiful deep green, with a discreet aroma of marine plankton and a fresh flavor.

The filtration separates the water and the spirulina in a 30 micron filter.

The water returns to the basin, while the Spirulina flows in the form of a completely green paste.

Once drained, the dough is pressed to remove as much water as possible.

They constitute the biomass.

For drying, we have chosen to dry at low temperature to keep the nutritional values. The material is dried in the form of Spaghetti on shelves.

After drying, we obtain twigs, which are on sale on our shop, but also you can find it in powder form and in the form of dragee (They are not heated but compacted to preserve the nutritional values ​​(Vitamins, enzymes and pigments).
